Seeger Gym

The Seeger Gym was named after Ruth Taubert Seeger, a long time PE teacher and coach at Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) for 37 years starting in 1949.  She was the first and only woman to compete for the USA team in the track and field events at the World Games for the Deaf (WGD) in 1957.  After the WGD, she established competitive sports programs for girls at TSD.  She was also the USA women's track coach and her TSD girls accumulated a total of 27 medals at the WGD in 1965, 1969, 1973, 1977 and 1985.  Governor Bill Clements selected her to the Texas Women's Hall of Fame in 1998.
