TSD Athletic is proud to announce that several of our boys basketball players have been selected to All-Team by various organizations.

TSD Athletic is proud to announce that several of our girls basketball players have been selected to All-Team by various organizations.

Last Tuesday, our TSD High School Tennis Team showed a lot of heart and determination at the district tournament. I am very proud to announce that Diara Johnson won 1st place in the girls singles division! Greg Mata also played three tough singles matches and won 2 out of the 3 matches earning himself 3rd place in the boys singles division. CJ Upchurch and David Hernandez went 1 and 1 today and earned 2nd place in the boys doubles division. Emeril Arellano and Andrew Ramirez earned their place at the number 3 spot in the boys doubles division. Our boys team also won the boys team championship award! All of the tennis players mentioned above will be continuing on to the state tournament on April 12th. Overall, I cannot even explain how proud I am of their hard work to prepare for this tournament and I am so thrilled that their hard work paid off for them today! They should be very proud of themselves, their improvements in their tennis games, and how they represented TSD and our community today! We are looking forward to more success at the state tournament in a few weeks.

It is our greatest pleasure to announce that National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association (NDIAA) has selected the TSD wrestling team as the "Team of the Year!"

NDIAA has also selected our very own Chris Hamilton, Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach, and Brian Sipek, Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach, as the "Coach of the Year!"

Congratulations to all of the coaches and athletes of both basketball and wrestling teams! Undeniably that their hard work and commitment to TSD Athletics has earned this recognition!

Our SOTX Basketball team went down to San Marcos to compete against other teams in 5-5 and individual skills competition. Click on picture for story...

In the second round of the TAPPS State playoffs, the boys went up against a tough and experienced team from St. Thomas Episcopal.

The TSD team had a difficult time finding the range and fell behind early. The boys had trouble with St. Thomas' pressure and went into half time with a double-digit deficit. St. Thomas would hold on for an easy win, 37-79.

St. Thomas Episcopal is the best team I have ever coached against. We should be honored knowing that we were the remaining 16 teams for the 3A state playoffs. Rest assured, I am positive that St. Thomas Episcopal will be playing in the state finals this year.

We won 23 games this year. Most wins since '88-89. This season will go down as one of my best seasons since I came here in 2001.

On Friday, February 19th, the TSD varsity girls basketball team travelled to Katy, TX to face off with Faith West in a bi-district playoff game. The game started out slow for both teams and the first quarter ended with Katy Faith West holding a slim two-point lead. In the second quarter, TSD girls found our rhythm with several fast break opportunities and held a one-point lead, 17-16, going into halftime. Both teams played evenly in the third quarter and the game was tied at 30 as we started the 4th quarter. Faith West came away with a few steals and made shot opportunities. Our defense began wearing down as Faith West continued finding their way to the rim and drawing fouls. Offensively, we began forcing bad passes which led to turnovers. Before we could get back in the game, Faith West had a 14-5 run to finish the game and won by a final score of 44-33.

Gunita Schmidjorg led the team with 11 points followed by Sunita Schmidjorg with 9 points and Mia Upchurch with 8 points.

Our season ended with an overall record of 23-11.

Note: Katy Faith West won their 2nd round playoff game over Boerne Geneva and advanced to the Elite 8 of the TAPPS 3A State Playoffs. They will face off with Beaumont Legacy Christian.

Last Saturday, the boys went up to Round Rock to wrestle in Heart of Texas tournament. Coach said it was a good tournament. Seven boys went and 5 of them finished 4th or higher! See the pictures attached.
