Boys Basketball - New Year Eve Shootout

We were placed in a tough pool playing two solid teams in Junction and Hyde Park. Junction has a 6'9 Texas AM signee who dominated during the game against us, but we kept the game close and forced the game to go extra period. During tournament play, overtime is for only two minutes. Unfortunately, we allowed one big play and lost the game 39-36.

In our second game, we played Hyde Park who is a TAPPS 5A school. We were up six points with a minute to go. Unfortunately, we missed some important free throws and allowed them to make two big threes to force the game to overtime once again, which we lost 72-69. Hyde Park went on to win the championship in the tournament. So, this loss was nothing to pout over except the fact we did not hold onto the lead.

Because we went 0-2, we played in the bronze bracket. As expected, we dominated both games against Utopia and Knippa. We won Bronze Bracket championship, and our record stands at 7-6. Our district play begins now.

On a side note, Jonah Hazelett, our senior, broke school record by having 9 blocks against Hyde Park. The old school record is 6 blocks. Congratulations to Jonah Hazelett!
