TSD Swim Meet Summary

TSD travels to Belton End-of-the Year HS Swim Meet at Belton, Tx – Saturday, December 1, 2018

The swim team traveled to Belton, Tx to compete at the Belton HS pool. This meet involves schools from throughout Southern Texas and is rather competitive. Two TSD boys swimmers, Josue Flores-Laines, Fr., and Mark Huerta, So., led all swimmers by qualifying for finals in both the 50 Free and the 100 Free with stellar efforts in their first HS swim meet competition. Both are pretty skilled swimmers and are certainly using their skills to represent TSD well. Josue swam the 50 Free in 26.10 seconds and the 100 Free in 59.82 seconds, breaking the 1-minute mark. Mark also swam the 50 Free, he had a time of 28.00 seconds. For the 100 Free, Mark swam it in just over a minute in 1:07.20.

Jordan Leach and Tabatha Simmons, were the TSD girls swim team reps. Tabatha swam the 50 Free in 34.51 and following closely behind was Jordan Leach, who swam the 50 Free in 35.64. Tabatha also swam in the 100 Free, achieving a time of 1:28.66.

TSD Hosts TSD MS/HS Swim Meet #1 – Thursday, December 6, 2018

The first home MS/HS swim meet of the 2018-2019 winter season took place at the Leroy Colombo Swim Center at the Texas School for the Deaf. A good number of both 5th-8th graders and HS swimmers participated.

Our TSD MS Swim Team (including 5th graders) faced the Regents MS Swim Team. The TSD MS Boys scored 52 team points to Regents MS Boys 41 points. The Regents MS Girls scored 211 points to TSD MS Girls 27 points. Regardless of the team scores, great efforts were seen among all swimmers.

For the TSD MS Girls, Jovie McKee, Dalilah Moore, and Delaney Roberts, all 5th graders, and Camilla Gonzales-Flores, 6th grade, all represented TSD. Meanwhile, for the TSD MS Boys, Andrey Armeytev and Mayank Baker, also both 5th graders, and Sean Adamson, 7th grade, represented TSD. Both Dalilah and Mayank continued their 2nd season of swimming at TSD, initially swimming on the TSD Summer Swim Team this past summer.

Freestyle and Breaststroke. Dalilah (1:02.00), Jovie (1:16.30), Camilla (1:29.35), Delaney (2:30), Mayank (45.72), Sean (55.98), and Andrey (1:13.30) all swam in the 50 Free. And Sean (2:17.87) wanted a bit of a longer distance, so he swam the 100 Free as well. Sean (1:04.18) also swam in the 50 Breaststroke. Others who swam in the 50 Breaststroke were: Jovie McKee (1:13.84), Dalilah (1:48.64), Mayank (1:24.37).

Backstroke and Relays. Jovie (1:05.00), Dalilah (1:25.66), Camilla (1:44.00),  Mayank (57.67), and Andrey (1:32.89) all swam backstroke. And participating in the relays were: Dalilah, Jovie, Camilla, and Delaney, all in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 6:29.14. The boys did not swim the relay due to only having 3 swimmers.

TSD High School Swim Team included the following female swimmers: Marissa Giuntoli, Fr., Jordan Leach, Jr., Cassidy Losh, So., Jewel Rocha, Jr., Jaida Scott, Sr., Tabatha Simmons, Jr., and Anabelle Weaver, Jr., all who have had prior swim team experience from previously swimming on the TSD Summer Swim Team and/or Winter Swim Team. The following male swimmers were present: Josue Flores-Laines, Fr., Mark Huerta, So., Naeem Muhammed Ali, Jr., Ira Newsome, Fr., Ethan Nunez, Jr., and Rahim Abdul, Fr., all who are swimming HS swim team for the first time with some having had prior swim team experience.

The TSD HS Girls came in 2nd place with 73 points, just behind the 1st place team, Regents with 96 points. St. Michael’s came in 3rd with 43 points, Our Lady of the Hills, 4th place with 35 points, and Austin Waldorf finished in 5th with 28 points.

The TSD HS Boys also placed 2nd with 50 points, only 6 points behind Regents with 56 points. Placing 3rd was St. Michael’s with 34 points, Austin Waldorf placed 4th with 18 points, and Hyde Park placed 5th with 15 points.

All swimmers, again, gave it their very best.
