HS CROSS-COUNTRY: September 8, 2018

On Friday before the meet, the CC Team gathered for a spaghetti dinner complete with bread and salad at the HS Girls Dorm Lobby. Runners, Jaida, Alyssa, and Carmelita helped out with the cooking (Thanks!!!) and all runners helped with the clean-up. A special thanks to the HS Girls Residential Staff for having us use the HS Girls Dorm Lobby for the special occasion!!!

Yesterday marked out first CC meet of the 2018 Fall Season, running at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School. This meet is usually our first meet of the season, 7 girls and 7 boys represented TSD:

Veteran TSD female runners, Jordan L, Anabelle W, and Jaida S, led the way, running in the first race of the day, the Girls Varsity 5K. Anabelle (25:08) and Jaida (25:08) ran neck-to-neck to the finish, both achieving the same time for the 3.1 mile run. Jordan L (30:44) followed quickly posting a time of 30:44. All are on par to start the season! Runners joining the TSD CC Team for the first time this year, ran valiantly, in the 2-mile JV Girls race, are Asia C (with a time of 21:36), Carmelita Y (23:01), Kylie J (23:04), Jessica D (25:41).

Five (5) TSD male runners participated in the Boys JV 5K race. Leading the way was Zaccaria Stein (25:50), Brody V (26:21), Trei L (27:54), Hawkins M (27:14). All are new runners, except for veteran Brody V, who ran a good, first time season race, taking it in stride, setting the stage for faster runs to come. The others ran strongly, especially in the beginning of the race as they were all in the top 25-50% of the pack. It was a learning experience as the runners have come to realize the importance of “running evenly” throughout the race as compared to starting out way too fast and finishing with a sprint. This goes to show that our runners still had much energy left in the tank, which they’ll learn to use more efficiently by “running evenly” throughout the 5K distance. Our remaining 3 male runners experienced the same when running the 2-mile run of the 5K race, posting 2-mile times were: Gage H (19:47), Luis R. (22:06), Willie H (24:05). They also showed that they can, too, benefit from “running evenly.” When this strategy is utilized, each runner will post new Personal Records (PR’s) this upcoming Saturday, September 15 at Texas Lutheran University.

A special THANKS to the Rivera Family who treated the team to lunch at Chik-Fila after the CC Meet!!!! Thank you!!!!
