TSD Rangers vs St. Dominic Savio - Recap - Oct. 2

The Texas School for the Deaf Rangers dropped to 3-2 after losing to the Savio High School Eagles (2-3) in a game that had all the signs of a hard-fought defensive game. Only trailing by one point to the Eagles at halftime, the Rangers had every opportunity to win the game in the second half, but mistakes and lack of execution led to the Rangers 34-8 loss to the Eagles.

Junior Alvin Anthony had 52 yards on eight carries. The Eagles did not just contain Anthony; only one of the seven other Rangers that rushed the ball ran for more than 15 yards. Junior Elonzo Arellano threw for 69 yards on 21 attempts with one touchdown and two interceptions. The two interceptions came in the third quarter and led to two touchdowns for the Eagles. Junior Dalton Taylor was the leading receiver with 47 yards and one touchdown. Seniors Iosif Shayman and Anthony each caught one ball for ten yards.

The game against Savio was the last non-conference game for the Rangers. All of the Rangers’ remaining opponents have a combined record of 13-20-1. TSD Rangers’ next game will be their first district away game against the Saint Paul High School Cardinals (4-2-1) on October 10th. The Cardinals currently hold the second best record in the district and will prove to be a big test for the young Rangers team, who are currently in 3rd place in their district.
