TSD beat Texas Wind, the Rangers are now 2-0

The Texas School for the Deaf Rangers continues to impress with their speed, power, and precise execution. After an impressive 52-0 over Texas Wind High School -- last year, TSD beat Texas Wind (formerly known as Abilene Ravens) by 8, the Rangers are now 2-0. This marks the first time since 2010 that the Rangers have won their home opener.

Head coach John Moore and the Rangers have put a strong emphasis on speed this season. Junior Alvin Anthony rushed for 112 yards on seven carries including a 35-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Junior Jian Bergerson contributed to the powerful offense with seven carries for 28 yards and one touchdown. Freshmen Jadan Anderson showed some promising play-making ability with an electrifying 57-yard touchdown run. Anderson ended the nigh with three carries for 63 yards. Sophomore Jacob Vasquez provided the power, bruising his way up the middle for 35 yards and one touchdown on six carries. Focusing on the successful rushing attack, junior quarterback Elonzo Arellano threw the ball three times, completing two of those three passes for 98 yards and one touchdown. Arellano also added 35 yards on the ground with one touchdown. On the receiving end of the Arellano passes was junior Dalton Taylor who ended his night with 98 yards receiving and one touchdown.

At halftime, the Rangers were sitting on a comfortable 24-0 lead. The Rangers’ focus on precise execution proved to be too much for the Texas Wind in the second half as the Rangers scored another 28 unanswered points, bringing the total score to 52-0.

The Rangers have a bye this week. Their next game will be an away game against Lake Country Christian High School (1-0) on September 19th, 2014 at 7:30 PM.
