Texas Cross Country Girls Team take the 3rd Place Plaque in District competition; Boys take take 4th place, narrowly missing 3rd by 1 point. Cardenas, Harlicker, and Scott all earn medals.
Front-runners, Ashley Harlicker (9th grade) and Jaida Scott (10th grade) tested their mettle against one another once again. Harlicker took the lead over Scott mid-way through the 2-mile run to finish 8th overall in a new season best and school record time of 14:18, with Scott in pursuit, finishing 12th overall with a personal best time of 14:47. Both Harlicker and Scott earned district medals.
Others representing the Texas Girls CC Team top 5 finishers were Yasmin Watkins (12th grade), Kimberly Gonzalez (11th grade), and Jordan Leach (9th grade). Watkins achieved a personal best that eluded her since her freshman year, clocking in with a time of 16:45. Gonzalez, following her teammate, achieved a PR time of 17:09. Jordan Leach completed her team-leading 10th run of the season!
On the Texas Boys side, there was definitely a strong effort made by all 7 in their quest to podium and just barely missed it by 1 point to a strong Brentwood Christian boys team. Joe Cardenas (10th grade) led all Texas runners with a 3rd place overall finish and took the podium, earning a plaque and a medal for his strong efforts. The other four team runners earning points for Texas were: Andrew Ramirez (12th grade), Erik Martinez (12th grade), Gabriel Veit (12th grade), and Brody Vukmonich (9th grade). Note that the distance for the boys run was 4500 meters instead of the usual 5k due to construction on site, therefore there are no personal bests to report.
